With revised rules, improved components, and new missions, this edition offers a more immersive and accessible experience while retaining the depth that veteran players love.
What's New in the Deluxe Edition?
Fields of Fire: Deluxe Edition is an enhanced and improved version of Fields of Fire: Volume I. The result of 15 years of player feedback, hundreds of hours of playtesting, and extensive discussions with the design team, this Deluxe Edition elevates Ben Hull's tactical masterpiece. Its goal: to offer a more accessible experience for modern players while retaining the strategic depth that has captivated series veterans.
New Features and Improvements
A Completely Rewritten Rulebook
This 3rd edition of the rules has been redesigned for greater clarity and fluidity. It includes numerous examples, diagrams, and explanatory notes, while remaining faithful to the rules of the 2nd edition. Series developers Andrew Stead and Colin Parsons have eliminated ambiguities and special cases to create a true reference guide.
Dedicated Training Materials
Fields of Fire is known for its complexity, but the training manual makes learning easier. The Basic Training Field Manual gradually introduces the rules through exercises designed to teach the fundamentals of infantry combat. The Advanced Operations Field Manual guides players through more advanced scenarios, such as airborne assaults, defensive missions, and the use of support vehicles.
A complete standalone mission
Keep Up the Fire! is a standalone mission set during World War II, specifically designed to help new players immerse themselves in the game. It can be replayed with different, simplified rules, allowing for a gradual adaptation to full historical campaigns.
Four completely redesigned mission books
Building on the format introduced with Fields of Fire: The Bulge Campaign, the Normandy, Heartbreak Ridge, Naktong River, and Vietnam campaigns have been clarified and enriched with new historical notes and previously unseen additions.
Updated and improved components
Over 200 updated counters and new reference markers.
New elevation maps to enhance the Heartbreak Ridge campaign.
A completely revised set of game aids: new logistics sheets, command displays, air assault planning maps, and more.
A 3.5" game box.
The Game
Fields of Fire is a solitaire game where you command an infantry company from the 20th century to the present day. Unlike many tactical games, it doesn't rely on dice or random rolls, but on a card-based system.
Two decks of cards are used:
The Terrain Deck, specific to a given region, is used to build the map for the different missions.
The Action Deck manages combat, command, and various actions.
Units are represented by tokens symbolizing HQs, squads, heavy weapons teams, forward observers, vehicles, and helicopters. Each game corresponds to a mission, and several missions can be linked together to simulate a complete historical campaign, with experience management and troop replacement. A mission lasts approximately 1 to 2 hours.
The game is based on four real campaigns experienced by the US 9th Infantry Division (the "Manchus") during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Their motto: "Keep Up the Fire!"
