Much has been written about the location of the Sabis flumen, near which the battle fought in 57 BC took place. AD between the legions of Caesar and the Belgian Gallic tribes (Nerviens, Atrébates ...). Michel Conreur proposes to situate the confrontation in the east of the small city of Thuin, possible capital of the Nervian people. There is no formal evidence to definitively confirm this hypothesis which, it must be admitted, agrees in many ways with what we know of the battle. Whether on the steep slopes of the Sambre or on another watercourse, this work is an opportunity to evoke this battle where Caesar had to defend his life and only won the victory in extremis thanks to the lucidity of his lieutenant Labiénus and the courage of his legions. Despite their defeat, Caesar will pay homage to his formidable adversaries and their leader Boduognat, who resisted him with courage and honor.
